Here are some answers to common questions about dentures.
What Kinds of Dentures Are There?
There are three types of dentures. There are temporary dentures that people that are waiting for cosmetic dentistry procedures to use to help keep their smile natural during the wait. Then, there are partial dentures. Partial dentures are used when you have only a few teeth missing, and the denture is able to fit between your actual teeth. Complete dentures are used when you have no teeth remaining in your mouth, and you're looking to have a natural smile.
How Are Dentures Made?
You'll come in to see Dr. Pinky Penalosa in our offices, and she'll examine your gumline and general mouth health. Once it's been decided that you're a candidate for dentures, molds will be made of your gums as dentures are completely customized. These molds are then sent to our lab that creates a custom set of teeth for your mouth. You'll come back when your dentures are complete, and a fitting will determine if a perfect fit has been achieved. Adjustments may need to be made.
You'll want to take your dentures out every night and rinse them. Then, you'll want to use a denture brush to help keep them clean and remove any food particles. Keep them soaking overnight until you wake up in the morning, and you're ready to put them back in. Don't forget that you should brush your gums and tongue along with using your favorite mouthwash.
